GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.–The Colorado Mesa baseball team defeated the University of Nebraska-Kearney, 14-4, to give manager Chris Hanks his 538th victory. The milestone makes him the all-time wins leader in CMU history.
“You can say 538 wins,” Hanks said. “I didn’t get a hit and I didn’t pitch a ball or anything else. It’s the players, the coaches, and the administration at the school that supports baseball–from our president, to our athletic director, to the community in general. The familiar faces you see come to all the games. That’s what means a lot to me.”
Nolan Snell got the win for the Mavericks Thursday afternoon at Canyon View Park. The starting pitcher threw seven innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, walked four and struck out 11.
“Its a true honor to be coached by such a great coach,” Snell said. “He’s one of the best I’ve ever had. He knows how to teach the game I’m happy that I could get that for him.”
The team will continue the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. Game one set to start at 1 p.m.
